The school’s Victorian buildings make a striking impression from the moment you arrive. Their warm red-brick façades, set against green playing fields and the Framlingham Mere nature reserve, paint a truly idyllic picture. Yet behind this historic backdrop lies a vibrant, modern school: a purpose-built Sixth Form Centre, an inspiring Design & Technology department, and excellent facilities for music, including a brand-new recording studio. London Stansted Airport is only about 90 minutes away.
At Framlingham, pastoral care takes centre stage. With its manageable size, the school feels personal and approachable. Teachers know their pupils well, and support is given with warmth, attention and genuine care. Headteacher Louise North is a true source of inspiration for both staff and students, and her leadership shapes the College’s family atmosphere. Alongside this nurturing spirit, Framlingham offers strong academics with both A-level and BTEC pathways. The tone here is modern, open, and friendly – formality and stiff traditions are refreshingly absent.
Framlingham is famous for sport, and hockey is its flagship. The girls’ teams are among the best in England year after year, and the boys are fast catching up. The facilities are first class: several AstroTurf pitches, a large fitness centre, a swimming pool, and former Olympians on the coaching team. There is even a dedicated girls-only fitness suite – thoughtful, practical, and well used. Yet the focus is not only on elite performance: numerous B, C, and D teams ensure that enthusiasm and team spirit count just as much as top-level talent. And hockey is just the start – netball, tennis, cricket, and rugby also have their success stories here.

Around 60% of pupils live on site across seven houses – four for boys and three for girls. Life in the houses is homely and sociable: younger pupils share rooms of two or three, while Sixth Formers enjoy single or twin rooms. Even on exeat weekends, pupils are welcome to stay, further strengthening the sense of belonging and home away from home.
