It’s The Climb

Mount Kelly is a small school and the benefit that this brings is a sense of family and really getting to know everyone and everyone knowing you. It has 384 pupils of whom 164 are full boarders but this figure increases with a few dozen flexi- boarders as well. It offers A levels and BTec and the leavers go on to the full range of universities including Russell Group universities and a good selection of American Universities. The boarding houses are all sited on the campus and there is a central dining room that serves excellent food. The pupils have some freedom and are allowed to walk into town under certain conditions. The school is led by an impressive Headmaster who parents, pupils and staff alike all seem to adore and his charismatic, personal involvement in every aspect of school life underpins the warm, caring, family feel of the school.

Location

The beautiful market town of Tavistock is home to Mount Kelly and being in the Dartmoor National Park it offers stunning scenery. Mount Kelly has a gothic feel to its main building but is in fact a warm, family- orientated school that offers an enormous amount especially to those that love outdoor adventure or are focussed on swimming or Girls’ Football. Although it is a journey to get there it is well worth the effort. The school offers pick-up and drop off services to and from London Heathrow, Bristol and Exeter airports inclusive in the fees to help overseas families.

Girls’ football

Mount Kelly has also forged a glowing reputation for Girls’ Football and with support of the Chelsea Football Club Foundation it now has a national reputation, cemented by being crowned U18 National Champions in 2024.

Outdoor Adventure

Adventurous Training is a by- product of its location on the edge of Dartmoor and every year it enters several teams into the arduous Ten Tors, a serious team challenge crossing and camping in the wilds of Dartmoor. It also enters teams into another great endurance competition, the Devizes to Westminster Canoe race.

Academic

It is though first and foremost a school and offers a quality education in the classroom and out of it as well. Although a small school Mount Kelly offers a surprisingly broad curriculum in the Sixth Form with a good subject choice for A level and BTecs in Sport Development and Coaching, Applied Science as well as in Performing Arts. In addition, it also encourages a good number of its pupils to do an EPQ, An Extended Project Qualification, something Universities tend to value.
