King’s School Bruton, in South Somerset, is a typical English boarding school. The size and family atmosphere make it easy for all pupils to feel at home. Brutonians are well placed in terms of sports; the school achieves great results for its small student body, specifically in areas of hockey, rugby, and athletics. The late Queen Elizabeth II visited the school in 2019 to help celebrate the school’s 500th anniversary and opened the newly built Queen Elizabeth II Music School.

School
The consistently good academic results at King’s Bruton reflect the dedication of its staff. The teacher-student ratio of 1:9 also contributes to this. Headmaster Ian Wilmshurst has been Headmaster since 2009. All pupils benefit equally from this long-term continuity and dedication and the Headmaster’s will to enable all students to achieve their personal best. Ten different music groups, from choirs to orchestras, from big bands to ensembles, as well as drama groups, are just some of the highlights of King’s.
Boarding
Around 50 per cent of all pupils are boarders, although many day pupils do also regularly stay overnight. Community spirit is exemplified and expected throughout the school and the school attaches particular importance to this. Meals are taken in the school dining room, accommodation organised in six houses in which boarders and day pupils are fully integrated and excursions are offered at weekend.
