Lancing College

Lancing College - Aerial of the school
Friendly and impressive all-round boarding school with farm and equestrian centre in South England.
Be inspired. Be brilliant. Be you.

This is a beautiful school set in 158 hectares of the South Downs National Park rolling landscape. The buildings are most impressive and at its heart is a stunning and majestic chapel that was started in 1868 and completed in 2022! The school itself was purpose built with its gothic architecture making it look much older than its 150 + years. The school itself was founded in 1848 as part of the Woodard Foundation of Schools and has about 600 pupils, with over half as boarders. They are accommodated in 10 boarding houses, one of which is a co-educational Day House.

The location and the campus

It is located on the South Coast, 15 min from the beach, not far from Brighton and about a 40 minute drive from Gatwick or 45 minutes on a direct train.

Facilities include one of the biggest school chapels, sports fields, a theatre, a swimming pool, a modern art centre overlooking the sea and a farm. Very few schools can boast a

farm where the children can discover animal husbandry and experience agriculture. This is great for aspiring vets and animal lovers.

Blessed are the pure of Heart

Beati Mundo Corde is the Latin school motto and reflects the honest nature of what the school sets out to be. Students are encouraged to get to know each other, and this creates friendships early in the academic year. The school offers a vast array of opportunities both in the classroom and outside on the sports field or even on its own farm encouraging students to get involved in school life.

There is a full and varied sporting programme which ranges from those wanting to try something new to those that wish to compete at the highest level. The main sports are football, hockey, tennis, netball, cricket and swimming with so many other options from fencing, fitness/ gym, sailing, yoga to golf and even dog walking.

Riding

They have their own Equestrian Centre a short walk from the school with a horse and pony loan scheme and with lessons catering for showjumping and dressage there is plenty going on.

Performing Arts – Music, Art and Theatre

Lancing has an impressive array of alumni who have gone on to excel in the Performing Arts and so it is no surprise to discover that this is a vibrant and successful aspect of the school. Dance, Drama and Music are embedded in the co-curricular programme providing endless opportunities for the students. With a theatre, a drama studio and even an outdoor theatre capable of seating an audience of 400 there are venues aplenty and pupils are encouraged to be involved whether on stage or behind the scenes with the technical aspects of putting on a show.

Lancing has three orchestras, two choirs, A Cappella Club, Big Band, Symphonic Windband, rock music workshops, conducting classes, improvisation workshops, composition lessons, and a full programme of chamber music coaching. The Music

School presents between 30 and 40 concerts each year, in and out of College, presenting pupil-musicians with many opportunities to perform as soloists and in ensembles. From beginners to virtuoso violinists all are welcome to participate and enjoy the musical offerings.
