The Royal Hospital School was founded in 1712 preparing boys for the Royal Navy. As a consequence the school offers an exceptional provision for sailing and commemorates key naval events in British history such as the Battle of Trafalgar. It enjoys a stunning campus location in rural Suffolk and offers outstanding teaching, sports, and boarding facilities for its 700 boys and girls aged 11-18. Because of its rich seafaring history this maritime heritage lives on in the daily life of the school.

Unique
Legacies of Royal Hospital’s seafaring heritage makes the school unique, including the exceptional provision for sailing, the spectacular whole-school ceremonial parades, the commemoration of key naval events and traditions, and our continued royal patronage.
Sailing
The school offers an Elite Sailing Academy which has become a Centre of Excellence for Sailing. The school has regular team and fleet fixtures against other schools and its students reach international and Olympic standard. They are currently holders of the BDSRA Kings Challenge Cup and junior BDSRA Hoad Shield as well as National School Sailing Champions. All year around, students are given the opportunity to learn to sail.
Academic
Good academic results.
Academically, the school is high achieving and aims to stretch pupils so they fulfil their potential. There is a 99% pass rate at A level and a third of students gain A*/A grades. Ultimately, the school has a truly global outlook based on fitness, well-being and healthy competition. The school is organised on a House system named after prominent naval figures.
