Stonyhurst Summer School is located in northern England and has a traditional boarding school feel to it. The language school has a target range of 10-16 years of age and overall courses are highly academic.  Class sizes are small, teaching takes place in 5 ability levels and there is 23 hours of classroom tuition per week. Progress tests coupled with four 45 minute homework periods each week reinforce the emphasis on academic rigor.

Outside of the classroom students can enjoy all the benefits of the Stonyhurst campus that includes quality accommodation including en-suite shower rooms and regular laundry. There is an all-weather pitch, indoor swimming pool, tennis courts, shooting range and a 9 hole golf course. There is supervised afternoon recreation and evening entertainment plus 2 full-day and 2 half-day fun filled excursions per course. Overall, students enjoy a happy and productive learning holiday in a family atmosphere with access to some of Britain's most beautiful countryside.

Stonyhurst College is the oldest Jesuit school in the world and as such the building is steeped in history. Students will enjoy a personal tour of our museum collection, which includes; 50,000+ rare books and objects, including a Shakespeare First Folio, a first edition of Mozarts Requiem, paintings by Rubens and Turner; and items from Pompeii.



English Course

The Intensive English course (23h per week) is designed to challenge students, to advance their understanding of English, improve their language skills and increase their confidence in using newly acquired skills in interesting and enjoyable ways.

Special Subject Courses

Special subject classes are task-based lessons that take place in the afternoons. They encourage students to consolidate and use the language they have been taught during the morning classes and throughout their time at Stonyhurst. These lessons are either led by our English teachers or a range of specialists who deliver subjects that are specific to the level and age of each class.

These subjects can include: The Old Chapel Museum, Astronomy Workshop, The Learner's Garden, Scientific Experiments, Creative Art

Tennis Academy

Two or four-week residential English Language and Tennis course (aged 10-16 years) For students who are looking to improve their English language skills alongside tennis tuition.

Students have the opportunity pre-course to sign up for lessons with qualified instructors for the following sports:

  • Horse-riding – 1 hour’s riding at a cost of £38.00 per session.
  • Golf Tuition – 1 hour’s professional golf tuition at a cost of £38.00 per session.
  • Swimming lessons – 30 minutes’ tuition at a cost of £20.00 per session.
  • Clay Pigeon shooting – 1 hour’s instruction at a cost of £38.00 per session.
  • Scuba diving lesson – 1 hour’s professional tuition at a cost of £38.00 per session.
